If you have been following along for a while, you know that I spent Thanksgiving weekend with my husband’s family in Georgia. They live in the North Georgia mountains in a small town called Blairsville and it is just magical. My husband and I love visiting his aunt and uncle there, as it is always so relaxing and everything is at such a slower pace! It also helps that my husband has his Georgia hunter’s license, so he enjoys being able to walk right outside, through the woods, and into the mountains to hunt. For me, I just love the stillness of it all and love waking up to such incredible views of the mountains.
My husband’s family has a tradition where they go to a local christmas tree farm the day after Thanksgiving and cut down their own tree. My husband and I opted for an artificial tree this year, so we missed out on the whole picking out your own tree experience, so it was so fun to tag along and help his family out!
The tree farm was magical and it was so fun to start off our holiday season here! Plus, I definitely needed to walk off some of that turkey and pumpkin pie that I had eaten the night before! Speaking of walking, a few of us definitely wore the wrong shoes for this! My husband’s cousins and I were wearing booties and had quite a difficult time maneuvering the terrain- there was a huge hill that you had to walk down to get to the trees! In our defense, we were out shopping for Black Friday prior to this and had wanted to look cute ha! I was just grateful I didn’t roll an ankle!
After much deliberation about which tree would be best (“that’s too tall/small/big/sparse”), we finally found the one! Then, the guys had to get to work with their little hand saw and cut the tree down. After taking a few turns, the tree was down and we were in business!
All in all, it was a lovely afternoon with family- the weather was perfect, the farm wasn’t crowded, and we were able to bring home a beautiful tree. We had such a wonderful time with our family and cannot wait to go back to Blairsville again. If you live near Georiga, you should consider a weekend getaway in Blairsville- it is so relaxing! There are all sorts of shops, wineries, and resturants- would make a perfect little trip!
