Growing up in the 90’s, I definitely tried out all the trends- all thanks to Limited Too no less! Gosh, that was my go to place growing up and I always felt so cool when my mom would take me there! I distinctly remember going there to get an outfit for my 7th grade dance- ugh, it was a terrible look haha! God bless my sweet mom for putting up with me- she’s a saint!
I loved putting at least 15 butterfly clips in my hair, wearing my Old Navy fleece vest, and pretending I was a backup dancer for Britney Spears. Side note- in the 5th grade I was in the talent show with some friends and we danced to “Hit Me Baby One More Time”…wearing t-shirts with basketballs on them and gym shorts…I have no idea what we wear thinking. Also, I went to a Catholic school, so I am sure they really liked us dancing to that song!
Even though my fashion choices were seriously questionable, the 90s will always have my heart. It was such a fun decade to grow up in and whenever I hear old school N’Sync/Mandy Moore/Jessica Simpson/Destiny’s Child, it always takes me back!
One of my favorite 90s trends were overalls and jumpers- ya’ll know I am a southern gal, so I definitely love my overalls. Sadly, when I was 8 years old, I was wearing my MOST FAVORITE bell-bottom overalls from Limited Too (duh!) when I was bitten by a dog- yes, it’s true! I was bitten on my leg (it was no joke- I had to get stitches!) and all I could think about was how mad I was that the dog ruined my favorite pair of overalls!
Today, I am taking a risk as this look is very different for me, but I am bringing the 90s trend back with an updated twist. Hey- if Bruno Mars and Cardi B can rock their 90s looks at the Grammys, then I can do it too! This corduroy pinafore dress screams edgy 90s, but I paired it with a feminine lace top to soften the look. This dress would also look perfect with a simple striped t-shirt underneath for a more laid back look.
I love that you could easily pair this with some ankle booties for cooler weather, but then transition to sneakers for warmer weather. I love this look for festival season and think it is so trendy!
What was your favorite trend from the 90s? Favorite memory? As always thank you for reading and sharing! -A
