Hello sweet friends! I have been wanting to start doing some beauty posts, as I get so many questions from you all about what makeup I use! Today, I wanted to start with my favorite mascaras. If I had to pick only one makeup item that I couldn’t live without, it would be mascara. For me, mascara makes such a huge difference in my appearance!
I get asked all the time if my lashes are real and they are! I have a secret though- I use Latisse, which is a prescription medication that I apply to my lash line nightly to help my lashes grow. Originally, this medication was marketed as eye drops for those with glaucoma. During the early trials of the medication, the researchers realized that almost all the patients were developing super long lashes- and the rest is history! I buy the medication from a local Dermatology office and a 3 month supply costs approximately $130. When I compared this price to getting lash extensions (which many of my friends have), I decided that this was the cheaper route and would require less time. Latisse has made all the difference with my lashes! Although I have always had longer lashes, as I have gotten older they have seemed less full. I have been using this medication for the last 7 months and have LOVED the results. Definitely worth the money and I am so happy!
Now, onto mascaras- I will break this down into high-end and drug store brands.
High End
1. Too Faced Better Than Sex– this is hands down, the BEST mascara! I only started using this mascara about one month ago, which is funny because I know that it has been all the rage for a while. Well, everyone was right- it seriously is amazing! It makes my lashes look over the top with lots of volume and curl. There’s no flaking throughout the day, but sometimes I will get some black smudging under my eye from where my lower lashes touch my skin. This usually only happens if I am looking down a lot (like if I am typing on the computer for an extended period of time). I have this problem with all mascaras and have been using setting powder under my eyes to help alleviate this problem.
2. Lancome Definicils: This mascara gives my lashes a more natural look and I love how the brush is thinner so I can really get to those smaller/shorter lashes within the inner corner of my eye
Drug Store
Throughout the years, I bet I have tried nearly every mascara that has been on the market. I came up with a list of my top two drug-store mascaras.
1. L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara: I have been using this mascara for YEARS, seriously! This is actually the only waterproof mascara that I buy. I don’t use waterproof mascara often (only on the beach), so I don’t like to spend a ton of money on mascara that I will not use often. This mascara is such a good buy as it rivals any high-end brand. This makes my lashes super dark and long and it is such a great price!
2. L’Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes: This mascara has two different ends- one is a primer that you use first and the other end is the actual mascara. I like the primer and think that it does really help to lengthen my lashes. The only con to this is that it is an extra step during my morning routine to put on the primer.
