It’s official: high-waisted everything is back in style- shorts, bikinis, etc… it’s all back friends! No longer are high-waisted jeans considered “mom jeans”… everyone is rocking them, and they look pretty amazing. And I’m sure you’ve noticed that for the past few summers, high-waisted shorts have been huge. The trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, so why not learn how to wear them? Today, I am sharing two casual looks that I styled with my favorite high-waisted denim shorts!
I have said this once before, but I have never been a fan of denim shorts- I know, who am I? What do I wear in the summer? Well, in the past, I typically would live in simple, summer dresses because I have always HATED my legs. I feel like most of us probably have that one area of our body that we really dislike- like, no matter what you do (work out, eat healthy, etc), nothing seems to help. Well gals, mine would be my legs.
Growing up, I was a cheerleader and always had stronger, muscular legs. I was always really self-conscious about them and unfortunately, that hasn’t changed much as I have gotten older. What has changed, however, is me accepting myself for who I am. I will never be some 6 foot tall supermodel with slender legs and no cellulite- nope, never. I have learned to love my body and accept the way I was made!
So, since I have recently started wearing denim shorts, I have been on the hunt for a figure flattering high-waisted pair. There is something so retro about high-waisted shorts and I believe they really help to accentuate your waist. I also love that these are a little on the longer side, as I definitely don’t want to be showing off any of my cheeks!
I love that you can create so many looks with one pair of shorts: pair with a tank and some sandals for a casual look, wear over your one-piece bathing suit if you’re headed to the beach, or add a chic blazer and heels for a night-time, dressy look. One pair of shorts styled so many different ways!
So, after all my searching and countless try-on sessions, I have officially found the best high-waisted denim! Topshop by far is my favorite brand for denim shorts and I have been obsessed with this pair and this pair. I will always love the classic blue denim wash, but this black, distressed pair just speak to me!
