Hi friends! As promised, I wanted to answer some questions that I received about my recent microblading and dermaplaning experience at Live Skin Nashville. This was my first time doing either, so I was a little nervous before I went!
First, let me give you the backstory: I have been thinking about both for a while now, but really needed to find someone that I could trust to tattoo my eyebrows and put a scalpel on my face haha! I mean these are two things that could reallllllly backfire. Although I have decent eyebrows, I was spending so much time getting ready filling them in. I would make them slightly thicker and extend them a little longer, as mine have always been too short. I am such a Type A person and would literally spend way too much time trying to get both brows symmetrical- it was ridiculous! As far as dermaplaning, it has been something I have always wanted to try. In case you didn’t know this, I have actually been shaving my face for a little over a year- yes, I said SHAVE– like drag a razor across my face. I mainly started because I had heard that it removed any peach fuzz and made your makeup look so much better. I would usually do it every 1-2 weeks and liked the results- however, dermaplaning is much more effective and removes hair and dead skin.
MICROBLADING
Microblading is a tattooing technique where a small handheld tool made up of several tiny needles is used to add permanent pigment to the skin. For me, I wanted to create thicker, longer brows and fill in any areas that were sparse. As you can see below, she brought my brows in a little closer together, filled them in, and extended them.
Here are some questions you guys asked about microblading:
- Does it hurt? I think everyone experiences pain differently, but I did not experience any pain with this! Before we started, she applied some numbing cream to my brows and let it sit for about 10-15 min. Periodically throughout the procedure, she would re-apply as needed. I was most nervous about this, but it was a breeze!
- Any redness or irritation afterwards? I did not experience any redness around my brows afterwards. They put triple antibiotic ointment over my brows at the end, so I left that on the rest of the day. I did notice some dryness and flaky, dry skin starting on the third day following the procedure.
- When can you get your brows wet afterwards? How do you wash your face? Generally speaking, you shouldn’t get your brows wet for 7-10 days afterwards. I have been using makeup remover wipes to wash my face and have been extra careful in the shower to not let water hit my face.
- How often do you need to get it done? I will be going back in 6 weeks for a follow-up visit to make sure I am still happy with the results. At that time, she will be able to add more pigment if there are certain areas that I need it! After that, it is recommended to come in annually for touch-ups!
- What is the price? Price can vary depending on where you go, but it can range from $400-700. Live Skin Nashville has all of their services and prices listed on their site!

Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a type of exfoliation where a 10 gauge scalpel is used to scrape off the top layer of dulling skin and peach fuzz.
Here are some of your most asked questions:
- Will facial hair grow back thicker/darker after? No, your hair will grow back at the same rate and have the same texture as it had before the procedure. In fact, some people say their hair is more fine after having the procedure.
- Do you have to continue dermaplaning? No, you do not have to continue. Obviously, like mentioned above, your hair will come back just like it appeared before. You can either continue dermaplaning or leave it alone!
- How often it is recommended to get it done? Liv, the girl who did mine, recommended coming in every 4-6 weeks.
- Can you do this if you have acne? Great question! I think you could still try to have dermaplaning done, but the technician would have to be much more careful to avoid the scalpel coming into contact with any pimples! Just something they would have to work around.
- Did it hurt? Not one bit! Just felt like something was being dragged across my face. I actually thought it felt good!
Overall, I am so happy with the results and so glad that I finally pulled the trigger. Olivia and Liv from Live Skin Nashville made the experience so enjoyable and I already cannot wait to go back. If you are local to Nashville or in the surrounding area, I highly recommend Live Skin Nashville- anddd facials/dermaplaning/etc make the best holiday gifts for your mom, sister, bestie!
