This has been one of my most requested posts ever and I am so excited to be sharing the details of our home with you all! I decided to break down these posts room by room just to make it a little easier on me and more organized for you!
Let me give you a little back story first- Scott and I bought this home in August of 2016. It was our first home purchase and we were so excited to finally be home owners (after renting for years!). We are about 10 minutes away from my parents and siblings which I love!
One of my best friends was our realtor which made the entire home buying process so easy! By the way- if you’re looking for a realtor in Nashville, let me know! This home was a new construction, but by the time we saw the home it was nearly finished. I was not able to pick out anything in the home (finishes, colors, etc), but luckily I liked almost everything exactly the way it was!
As far the the living room, it is a pretty large space that flows directly into the kitchen. I love how it is open concept and that we can have so many people in one area during parties and get togethers. The paint color on our walls is Anew Gray by Sherwinn Williams. So many of ya’ll have asked me about this color- it is a very neutral gray and I absolutely love it!
Okay, now onto decor- obviously, most of you know by now that I love neutral decor- beige, cream, tan, gray, etc. They are my favorite! I basically used this color scheme throughout the living room and added small pops of color with florals and pillows (sometimes!). When we first moved into this home, I knew that I quickly needed to decorate the living room since it would like be one of the most used rooms in the entire house. My go-to places I used to decorate (and I still use!) are Home Goods/TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, Joss and Main, Birchlane, and Wayfair. I also used Pinterest literally 24/7 to find inspiration. If you are skeptical about shopping online for furniture/decor, here are my tips:
- Read the reviews! ALWAYS! This is where you will find so much information about the true quality of the product. People are honest and will definitely give their true opinions.
- Measure out everything! If you are buying a piece of furniture, make sure you review the dimensions and measure it in your home. Figuring out how large or small something is based on an online photo is nearly impossible, so it’s important to make sure the dimensions will work for you!
- Check shipping costs/length of time until shipped! Make sure to take into account both as this can really determine whether or not you purchase the item.
As a side note, I have had really good experiences shopping online for furniture. Yes, there have been a few times when the product actually arrived mildly damaged, but the company took care of everything and remedied the situation. I 100% recommend the online stores I mentioned above and think they are great options for those looking to buy furniture at a discounted price.
Okay, back to the living room. Like I mentioned above, many of the items in our living room were purchased at Home Goods or are no longer available online, so I tried my best to course identical pieces for those of you that may be interested in recreating this space.

I also wanted to answer a few questions that ya’ll sent me regarding our home:
- What is your paint color? Anew Gray by Sherwinn Williams
- What is your favorite room in your house? Probably the living room because a) we spend most of our time there and b) it’s the only room that I feel is “finished.” HAHA
- Where is the best place to shop for rugs? I usually try Home Goods first, but if I can’t find anything I will shop online at the retailers I mentioned above- just make sure to read reviews before buying!
- Where is the best place to buy framed art? I LOVE this site here and have purchased artwork for our eat-in kitchen area from here. I have been looking to purchase more for our bedroom and cannot wait to add some fun prints in a nursery one day (not yet ya’ll… this IS NOT a pregnancy announcement haha!).
- Tips on buying your first home? Since Scott was in the military, we were able to use a VA loan to purchase our home which has some perks. Ultimately, I think it’s important to save before buying and to make sure to not buy something that will stretch your budget too much.
- Can we see more of your kitchen? Yes, I am planning on doing a kitchen post next!
- Where do you purchase lighting? Typically, I try to find light fixtures locally- I really like PD’s in Franklin, TN and have purchased two chandeliers from there. Other than that, I really like the online stories I mentioned at the beginning of the post.
- How do you keep all your light fabric clean (especially with a dog)? Well, first of all, THANK GOODNESS she is a light-colored dog because otherwise this would not work. My parents have a darker-colored dog and we’ve had a black lab over to our house and both times I could see hair EVERYWHERE! All over the couch, the rug, everywhere- you better believe that vacuum came out reallll quick! Luna has free roam of the furniture and she is allowed on the couch/chairs. We have had some occasions where her paws were a little dirty, but I have been able to carefully remove stains without any serious consequences. Everyone tells me that once we have kids, I will have to change all my furniture, but I’m just hoping to prove everyone wrong haha!
I hope you all found this helpful and I hope I was able to provide some inspiration for your home. I included all of the products I sourced below and I am created a new tab (living room) under the HOME category on my homepage that will house all of these products as well. Please feel free to reach out with any more questions that you may have!
Your living room is dreamy! You have such a good eye for putting everything together. It looks like it’s out of a magazine, yet inviting and cozy at the same time.
