Finally- it’s here! This is something that you guys have asked me about on a daily basis for the last few months and the day has arrived! I am talking all about my hair- what products I use, what I get done to it, etc- and sharing exactly how I get that little wave.
Color
Let’s talk haircare first- I get my hair done approximately every 6-8 weeks at Parlour 3 in Brentwood. I see Marissa and she has been doing my hair for the last 3-4 years. I get my hair partially highlighted, although I am not entirely sure what she uses- I will definitely ask the next time I go! I do know that she uses foil and will sometimes “paint” some random pieces at the end. I usually go pretty light in color around my face too!
Washing
As far as washing my hair, I have been using this shampoo for years and LOVE it! It leaves my hair so soft and I actually do not use a conditioner with it. I just feel like conditioners usually weigh my hair down and make my hair more greasy. I wash my hair approximately 2-3 times per week and think that has helped my hair so much! I used to wash my hair everyday which made it really dry, but skipping a few days has really left my hair healthy- and makes showering so much faster haha!
About once per week, I also use a purple shampoo to keep my blonde color bright. Purple shampoos are great for blondes because it removes any brassiness and really makes your color pop. I use this one and I love how my hair looks after. *This is very important- when I use the purple shampoo, I only leave it on for about 2-3 minutes and then I wash it out (and follow with using my regular shampoo). If you leave the purple shampoo on for too long (5 min+), your hair can really pick up the purple tones leaving it an almost lavender-gray color. In case you are wondering, yes, this has happened to me once when I was really rocking out to some music in the shower and wasn’t paying attention. My hair was a little “gray” for a few days and I definitely learned my lesson haha!
After I get out of the shower, I comb my hair with this.
I generally wash my hair at night, go to bed with wet hair, and let it dry overnight- meaning I rarely use a hair dryer unless its a must. I have this hair dryer and think it is AMAZING! In the past, hair dryers would leave my hair super dry and frizzy- fly aways were everywhere! With this hair dryer, my hair stays smooth and soft- plus it dries my hair SO fast!
Styling
During the week, my hair is typically in a ponytail or bun (sometimes with a hat thrown on!), but I know that you guys mainly see photos of me with my hair down and curled. I typically only curl my hair on days that I am shooting or if I am going out- which is generally about two times per week.
In my old tutorial, I used this curling iron as a wand and created waves by wrapping my hair around the barrel. I think this curling iron is a great option if you do not want to spend a ton of money on a styling tool- I still have it and love it!
For the past 4-5 months, I have been using this wand set and absolutely love it. If you follow any number of bloggers on Instagram, you have likely heard of this brand and their products. Let me tell you- their products are absolutely amazing and now I totally get all the hype around them. I mainly use the 1 inch wand from this set, but I have also used the 1.5 inch wand if I want a more relaxed curl. One thing that is great about this brand is that they have one base that can fit seven different attachments. So, you could always start off with the base and one attachment and then buy more attachments as needed.
Many of you have asked if I use any type of heat protectant before styling my hair and I do not. I know that I should, but I try my best to avoid styling my hair with heat and tend to only style my hair two times per week. Like I mentioned before, I rarely use a blow dryer as well.
I filmed a complete hair tutorial video today and posted it to my Instagram highlight labeled ‘hair.’
After I curl my hair, I use this texturizing spray and mainly focus the product on my ends to create a more tousled, texturized look. You can also spray this product to your roots to create instant lift and volume. Although this product is definitely pricey, I cannot recommend it enough- especially if you have hair similar in length to mine! This product has made all the difference and is really the secret to my waves! Hands down the best texturizing spray you’ll ever find!
Lastly, I do use hairspray to keep my curls in place. I have been using this hairspray for YEARS- like seriously, probably since high school. I actually read about it in Allure Magazine way back in the day (that magazine and Cosmo were my bibles HAHA!) and loved that it was a drug store product that was so highly recommended. This hairspray is amazing- it keeps my curls in place, but doesn’t leave my hair stiff or hard. My hair is still really soft and touchable which is amazing!
I included a round up of all the products mentioned in this post below.
Anddd that’s it girls- nothing too fancy! Please let me know if you have any questions about my tutorial or any of the products mentioned. Do you have any favorite hair products? Let me know in the comments below! As always, thank you for reading and sharing! -A
Do you wear your hair up for bed or leave it down? Was us best for the curls? Thank you
I wear my hair down, but I pin back the hairs around my face. I will show you guys on stories soon!
I want to get the t3 whirl trio SO bad! Hoping maybe for a b-day present 😉 Always love your hair girl!
I know it is a splurge, but I definitely recommend it! You can always start by buying just the base and one attachment- I use the one inch wand the most!
