Hi friends! Today I wanted to share a little about my skincare routine since it has changed a bit due to pregnancy. I always knew there were certain skincare ingredients that pregnant women should avoid (retinol, etc), but I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to find a skincare regimen that was safe! I found this article very helpful (although the author tends to err on the side of caution for almost everything!).
I want to say first that I am not a dermatologist/OB physician, nor do I know everything about skincare and pregnancy. I have done research and every product I am currently using has been cleared by my physician. With that being said, I do think there can be some variations in what a physician may/may not recommend. For instance, some physicians may be more ‘by the book/strict’ whereas others may be more ‘lenient.’ If you have a particular question about a skincare product that you want to use during pregnancy, I highly suggest asking your doctor as they will be able to provide the best guidance!
Prior to becoming pregnant, I was using this skincare routine and loved it! I had been on this regimen for about a year and felt like my skin never looked better! I highly recommend checking out these products if you are not pregnant!
Okay, let’s dive in! My morning routine is pretty basic, as I have learned the more simple your routine, the less likely you are exposing your skin (and baby!) to harmful ingredients!
- Wash face with this Cetaphil cleanser
- Apply Cetaphil lotion to face prior to applying makeup
See, told you- very basic and not too exciting. Both of these products are very safe for pregnant women and are dermatologist recommended. I feel like the cleanser does a relatively good job of cleaning my skin, but I do miss my Tula face cleanser haha (has retinoid in it). I also use the lotion all over my body whenever I get out of the shower!
My evening routine is also fairly straightforward, but I do need a little more to take off my makeup and cleanse my face after a long day.
- If I am wearing a lot of eye makeup, I will start with this cleansing oil and apply directly to my eyes (no water). I will take the product and gently massage it on my eyes with my fingertips- my eye makeup instantly starts melting off! The makes it much easier when I am washing my face as I have no difficulty with stubborn eye makeup not coming off!
- After using the oil (and having mascara all over my face haha!) I start with the Cetaphil cleanser. I make sure to wash my face very well to get all the makeup, oil, and sweat off! Two to three times a week, I will follow this step by using this cleanser brush and Cetaphil to give my skin a ‘super deep clean.’
- Once my face is washed and makeup free, I use the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum all over my face. * Fun fact- the Drunk Elephant brand was one of the most safe for pregnancy, with only a few products on their entire line not being recommended. I’ll link their FAQ page here! The hydration serum delivers major hydration, leaving my skin looking healthy and more illuminated. It also helps diminish drabness, dryness, and the appearance of fine lines.
- Afterwards, I apply the Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream by tapping it around my eyes (tip- leave in the refrigerator to keep it cool! Feels amazing!). This product features a brightening combination of eight peptides, five forms of vitamin C, and cucumber extract for firmer, stronger-looking skin around the eye area. The cream helps to increase firmness, decrease lines and wrinkles, and instantly brighten your undereyes.
And that’s it friends! Told you- super boring, nothing too crazy! Again, I have learned that the less products I use, the less likely I am exposing my skin to harmful ingredients!
I did want to mention a few other products that I love and use every now and again:
- Bio-Oil for stretch marks: I recently started using this product and will rub a little oil on my stomach when I get out of the shower!
- Tula Major Glow Cooling & Brightening Hydrogel Mask: I use this mask 2-3 times per week to improve my skin’s texture, tone, and hydration! Love the way it feels!
- Tula Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm: this little stick is pure magic! You can use it under your makeup or over it for an instantly brighter undereye + it helps diminish lines/wrinkles! Best part- it has this insane cooling sensation that is so refreshing!
*I do have a discount for Tula products- use ‘ALEXAANGLIN‘ for a major discount off your order! Keep in mind it will not work if you choose auto-delivery!
I hope this was helpful to any of you who are trying to figure out what products to use during pregnancy! I spent quite a bit of time researching different skincare companies and products online and I feel confident with all of the products I am using! As always, thank you for reading! -A
