This past weekend, Scott and I traveled to Charleston, SC for a little rest and relaxation before little one arrives. Everyone seems to call these trips a ‘babymoon,’ so I suppose that’s what we will call it! Many of you asked me to recap our trip and to share any recommendations, so I wanted to write a quick post while everything was fresh in my mind.
Both Scott and I have been to Charleston before and it is one of our favorite cities- there is so much history and culture! Downtown Charleston is so charming- plus they have amazing restaurants and shopping!
Last fall, I was in Charleston for a friend’s birthday and we stayed at the Belmond Charleston Place. We had such a wonderful time and I knew that is where I wanted Scott and I to stay this time around! Not only is the hotel absolutely beautiful, but it is attached to numerous restaurants and shops- everything is so convenient! Another aspect that I love about the hotel is their club level room option. Located on the top two floors of the hotel with stunning city views, the club level rooms have access to a two-story lounge with an expanded marble bar and plush seating. Here you can enjoy all day complimentary food and beverage service, including continental breakfast, afternoon tea, evening hors d’oeuvres and desserts. We loved that we could walk up to the lounge at any time during the day for a quick snack and drink! Another aspect I love about this hotel is that it is pet friendly- although we have never brought Luna on a trip with us, I love knowing that it is an option here!
I cannot recommend this hotel enough if you are planning a trip to Charleston. The service is amazing and from the moment you walk into the hotel you are treated so well! The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay wonderful!
Since we were looking to relax and rest up a bit during this little getaway, I didn’t plan too many things for Scott and I to do while we were in Charleston. Honestly, I booked a few reservations for lunch and dinner and left the rest of our days wide open with no plans. I didn’t want to feel like we were rushing around trying to get from one place to another; instead, I wanted to literally have minimal plans and just walk around without a care in the world.
As far as where we ate, we made reservations for:
- Poogan’s Porch: amazing brunch- highly recommend! Scott loved their Bloody Mary (with black pepper vodka) and we ordered the chicken and waffles (so good!) and the barbecuban sandwich (mix between a Cuban and BBQ sandwich). Oh, and the mac and cheese was divine- we ordered that as an appetizer!
- Hall’s Chophouse: BEST meal I have had in LONG time! Literally was so full afterwards! Everything on the menu sounded delicious (pretty sure you couldn’t go wrong with anything!), but we split a caesar salad and a few ounces of wagyu (melt in your mouth delish!) to start, Scott ordered the special which was a bison steak, and I ordered their petite filet. We also split a baked potato and asparagus as our sides. Definitely a MUST if you visit Charleston!
- Martin’s BBQ Joint on James Island: Scott and I met his brother + family here (they were also in town haha!) one afternoon to watch college football. It took about 15 minutes via Uber from our hotel, but it was such a fun, relaxed atmosphere with great food. We sat outside (they have lots of games like jenga and cornhole) and they had lots of TVs playing football games. Definitely recommend the nachos!
- Meeting at Market: attached to the lobby of the hotel, this pub is perfect for grabbing a quick bite-and drink! Scott and I ate lunch here-I got a salad and he got the fish tacos that looked amazing. Perfect place for salads, sandwiches, and other lighter bites!
- 5Church: So many of you recommended this restaurant! We made an earlier reservation here, so it wasn’t too busy which I loved! The environment is amazing- basically its an old-school church that has been renovated into a restaurant (think stained-glass windows, lots of arches). Dinner was delish- Scott got a tuna sushi roll and I ordered a burger- there were lots of seafood options too!
It may sound like all we did was eat in Charleston, but we did walk around quite a bit during the day. The hotel is located adjacent to King Street which is literally miles and miles of shopping and restaurants. We spent lots of time walking King Street and popping into different stores- surprisingly none for me! We stopped in lots of children’s/baby stores and Scott spent quite some time in an upscale shaving store haha! You could literally spend all day walking King Street and never get bored!
So many of you sent me your recommendations on things to do and where to eat in Charleston, so I thought I would share a recap below:
I hate that we weren’t able to check out every recommendation, but honestly this trip was more about relaxing than anything else- I mean… pretty sure I watched a total of like 6 hours of The Office in the hotel room haha!
For those of you headed to Charleston, I hope you have the best time and that this recap was helpful! As always, thank you for reading! -A
I love Charleston! I got engaged there.
