Can you believe we are one week out from Thanksgiving?! Today, my mom and I are sharing a Thanksgiving staple- homemade dressing! My mom has been making this for YEARS and it is always on our Thanksgiving table. I hope you all enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, divided
- 1 lb. day old French bread (needs to be cubed and dried the day before)
- 2 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1 1/2 cup diced celery
- 2/3 cup fresh parsley leaves, finely minced
- 1/4 cup fresh sage leaves, finely minced
- 3 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, finely minced
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 1/2. cup. chicken broth, divided *more may be needed depending on how you like your dressing
- 2 eggs
Directions
DAY BEFORE – Preheat oven to 250F. Cube French bread and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 45 minutes and stir occasionally. Once cooked, leave cubed French bread on the baking sheet uncovered on the counter overnight *Bread must be dried out otherwise it will get mushy when you make the dressing
- Place cubed bread in large bowl. Preheat oven to 350F and butter a 3 qt baking dish.
- Place cup of butter in a skillet and melt. Add onion and celery and cook until soft and lightly browned (about 10 min).
- Add onions and celery to your bread (in bowl). Also add in fresh seasonings, salt & pepper, and 1 1/4 cup of chicken broth. Toss well.
- In a small bowl, whisk the 2 eggs and add in remaining chicken broth. Pour this mixture over the bread and toss well. *If you feel like the dressing is too dry for your preference, you may add in a little more chicken broth*
- Spread dressing in buttered dish. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 40 minutes until top is golden brown.
I hope you all enjoy this recipe! Don’t forget, we also shared 2 other recipes perfect for Thanksgiving recently: Mac and cheese + Pumpkin roll. We wish you and your families a beautiful Thanksgiving- we are all so grateful for each and every one of of you! Cheers! Love, Nina and Alexa
