Today, my mom and I are sharing a delicious breakfast recipe that would be perfect for Christmas morning. Growing up, my mom always prepared a huge Christmas breakfast for us- I’m talking breads, casseroles, etc. We would all open gifts and then enjoy a late breakfast together. This is definitely a tradition that I will be starting with my children – especially as they get older. I hope you guys enjoy this recipe!
Ingredients
- 1 roll of Pillsbury pizza dough
- 1 pound of Italian sausage (ground, we prefer hot)
- 1 onion, diced
- 8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese *desired amount
- 8 oz shredded pepper jack cheese (optional) *desired amount
- 1 red pepper, diced
- 1 green pepper, diced
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- Pinch of red pepper flakes
- 1 egg
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350F
- Cook sausage until cooked through and browned- drain.
- While the sausage is draining in strainer, use the same skillet that you cooked the sausage in to sauté onion and peppers until tender.
- Add sausage to skillet with onions and pepper. Add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Transfer sausage and veggie mixture to a bowl and add desired amount of mozzarella cheese – we also use pepper jack, but you could also use cheddar!
- Place pizza dough on a greased cookie sheet. Spread meat, veggie, and cheese mixture over the dough- sprinkle with a bit more cheese.
- Roll dough up and press seam side down on cookie sheet.
- Combine one egg with 1 tablespoon of water (egg wash) and brush the top of the bread. May top with a little more cheese.
- Bake for 35-40 min or until golden brown on top
