After having August a few months ago, I noticed that a question I frequently received was regarding what breast pump I used. In fact, just the other day, one of my girlfriends asked for my thoughts on Elvie Pump, so I wanted to share in case any of you are curious as well (ps- ANGLIN20 works for 20% off!).
Choosing a breast pump can be an overwhelming process with quite a few things to consider. I have actually used a couple different breast pumps (a different one with each baby) and wanted to share my thoughts on each. Hopefully this helps in case any of you are looking currently looking at different options!
After I had Gray in 2019, I quickly realized that breastfeeding was going to be bit more difficult than I had anticipated. Gray had tongue/lip ties that needed to be revised and I experienced a low milk supply. Nursing was very difficult/painful, so I made the decision to pump exclusively. Ultimately, after speaking to a lactation consultant and reviewing options, I opted to rent a hospital grade pump from our local hospital. This pump had extremely powerful suction to help build and maintain my milk supply, BUT it was not hands-free which I didn’t love. To be honest, I grew to really dislike sitting and pumping- I felt very much stuck to a machine and it frustrated me that I couldn’t move around.
After having Oliver in 2021, our feeding experience as a whole was much better. Nursing went well and I experienced better overall milk supply, but I knew that I wanted the option to pump as needed. I looked into a few different breast pumps- specifically looking at ones that were hands-free since I also had a toddler at home. After doing some research, I ended up ordering Elvie Pump, a hands-free and wearable pump that allows you to move. It’s also the smallest most slimline all-in-bra breast pump for ultimate discretion. There are ZERO tubes and its customizable for your changing feed- you can choose between four pumping rhythms to help you achieve your breastfeeding goals. The pump also connects to an app, making it easy to monitor and control pumping. I loved this breast pump – I mean it’s amazing to be pumping completely hands-free! I was able to walk around the house, play with my toddler, cook, work, etc all while pumping. It was quiet and discreet too! Oftentimes found myself using the highest suction level and, from my pumping experience with Gray, I knew that my body just may need more powerful suction to produce and maintain my milk supply.
August was born in June 2023 and I had recently noticed that Elvie released a new breast pump, Elvie Stride, a pump that provides hospital-grade performance that’s portable, liberating you from sockets and wires. This seemed like the best of both worlds for me- a hospital-grade pump that didn’t need to be plugged in?! SIGN ME UP! I was SO excited about this pump and literally never ordered something so fast in my life.
As you can see below, this pump is connected to a hub which easily attaches to your pants/shorts. Honestly, I don’t mind this at all and would just clip the hub to my waistband. I’m still hands-free and can easily walk around, complete tasks, work, etc. More than anything, I LOVE the power of this pump. Elvie Stride creates suction up to -300 mmHG in a single cup set up, with both Stimulation and Expression modes, plus 10 intensity settings per mode. They also combined a small, hospital-grade motor with top-spec noise reduction technology to bring you a pumping powerhouse that’s so quiet you can hear a milk drop. Elvie Stride also connects to the ‘Pump with Elvie’ app allowing you to control the pump remotely, save preferred settings, and track pumping history. I cannot recommend this pump enough- truly the best breast pump!
Ultimately, I have been so impressed with Elvie and both of these breast pumps. With my lower milk supply, I personally have enjoyed the more powerful suction of Elvie Stride, but the tube-free Elvie Pump is amazing as well. Ultimately, there are some differences between these two pumps and you may need to consider personal needs when making your decision. I am ecstatic to share that Elvie is extending us a code for 20% off with ANGLIN20.
