Can you believe it is that time of the year again? The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is about to begin and is the best time of the year to purchase pre-season pieces for a fraction of the price. What sets this sale apart from others? These are brand new items (mainly for fall and winter) that are being discounted PRE-SEASON– typically you’ll see items on sale at the end of the season, not before. I will admit, thinking about jackets, boots, and jeans in the middle of July is always kind of weird, but I hope I can be a resource for any of you shopping the sale. I have been shopping this sale over the last few years and have learned a few tips along the way. This is your ultimate guide for how to shop the sale, eliminating the overwhelm, and getting the most bang for your buck.
Before I dive into sale information and my picks, I want to say that no one NEEDS to shop this sale. I am here to be a resource for you- I have scoured through HUNDREDS of pages of items and have curated a collection of my favorites. I want to make this as easy of a process as possible for you, but I never want you to feel like you have to have any of these items. I say this often, but remember- these are material items that DO NOT matter. Family, friends, experiences….that is what truly matters in life. Please don’t ever feel sucked into sales or pressured to buy a thing!
I will be sharing a variety of items to help inspire you and give you options in case you happen to be looking for cute new fall booties or that perfect leather jacket. Ultimately, I want to be a resource for you and help you find an amazing deal on something you love and can wear year after year. I have items that I’ve picked up in past year’s sales that I wear season after season. Below you’ll find all my tips and tricks for how to shop smart and build the perfect fall wardrobe in a budget friendly way!
WHAT IS THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE?
Every year, Nordstrom has a sale where they mark down new arrivals – like I mentioned above, most retailers mark down items at the end of the season, so this is a great way to shop fall/winter at a discounted price. The sale is tiered to allow those that spend the most with Nordstrom throughout the year to shop first. This is their way of saying thank you to their valued customers and also making sure that customers don’t flood the site and break it. To see what tier you are just log-in to your account here. TIPS/TRICKS FOR SHOPPING THE SALE
Everyone can preview the sale here now. I have gone through every.single.page (yes, its true) and have curated a list of my favorite items. Later today I will have a blog post of all my favorite items from the sale to make it easier for you to shop – versus scrolling through page after page and sifting through all the items yourself. I will have everything broken down by category so you won’t need to search every page of the Nordstrom website – leave the hard work to me!
If you have an account with Nordstrom, you can save items that you love to your wishlist. I highly recommend doing this, because it makes the checkout process quick and easy. This way you can checkout with your must-have items first and then go back and browse the sale for more items. It makes it that much less stressful and since you are able to checkout quickly, there is less of a chance your items will sell out. I already have my wishlist ready to go and when it is my turn to shop the sale I can quickly checkout with these items.
Create a checklist and budget– are you looking for a neutral fall bootie, leather jacket, basic tees, or a barefoot dreams blanket?! If you start a list and stick to it you are less likely to overspend and purchase items you don’t truly need/want. Without a list, I would find the sale very overwhelming making it easier to overspend and buy things you don’t truly need.
For me, this sale is a great opportunity to find fall wardrobe must-haves at a fraction of the price. I recommend looking through your closet (and your husband’s/kid’s) first and then thinking about what items you may need- new jeans? a new pair of boots? new bras and pajamas? winter coat for baby? Think about items you actually need and would benefit from purchasing. Once you know exactly what you have and what you need, start making your wishlist. I highly recommend setting a budget and focusing on items that you truly need in your closet and will get the most wear out of- I’ve included a list of fall essentials that every woman needs in their wardrobe (and what I generally focus on). Use this as a guide to help you map out your game plan!

I also find the sale to be a great time to start my holiday shopping as there are so many home and beauty deals. Think beauty bundles from high-end brands like Living Proof, Drybar, and Nars. They also have a ton of home items (candles and blankets) marked down which always make great gift ideas!
