Hello friends! I am so excited about this post today as I have been wanting to share with you all my favorite podcasts for some time now. Do you all listen to podcasts? Well, I didn’t even really know much about podcasts until a year ago when my commute to work put me in my car for about an hour each day. Don’t get me wrong, I love listening to music, but a girl can only listen to Taylor Swift’s new album so many times before you want to go crazy- jk, her album is ALL THE THINGS and I could listen to it all day long…I also love Ellie Goulding and The Weeknd, gosh they can sing.
After hearing my friends talk about how they listened to podcasts, I finally decided to give it a try. And let me tell you, I haven’t looked back.
First off, let me say that the podcasts that I typically listen to are not “educational”- what I mean is that when I am on my way to work or on the way home, I generally want to laugh, decompress, and not really think. I spend 8+ hours at work seeing patients, diagnosing illnesses, and prescribing medications- my brain is constantly “on.” So, when I am in the car driving, I really just want to listen to something that makes me happy. So, just a heads up, these may not be the most “educational” things to listen to!
1. Serial: Season One: Okay, this was the very first podcast I ever listened to and I was immediately sucked in- literally, I couldn’t wait to get in my car and pick up where I left off. This podcast revisits the true story of the 1999 murder of a high-school student in Baltimore that resulted in the victim’s boyfriend being convicted, although he still stands by his innocence today. The hosts revisit the people and places involved in the case and really make you question the outcome of the case- such a good one if you’re into true-crime and mystery!
2. S-Town: Very much a spin-off of Serial, this podcast begins with John B. McLemore, an eccentric antique clock restorer from Woodstock, Alabama, asking the host to come investigate a murder in his small town. Again, this is completely based on a true story and the podcasts are arranged in chronological order as the host begins to interview those in the town. Let me tell you- this one is a complete roller coaster! As in, I literally gasped during one particular episode when something absolutely crazy, and very upsetting, occurs. This podcast will have you on the edge of your seat and was especially interesting to listen to as a fellow Southerner. Again, such a good one if you are into mystery and true-crime stories!
3. Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: Every Sunday-Thursday night, Andy hosts WWHL on Bravo and this is literally the podcast version of it- I am usually in bed by the time this show comes on, so listening to the podcast is the next best thing. Each podcast is a quick 30 minutes where Andy sparks conversations about everything in the world of entertainment, politics, and pop culture. He, along with 2 guests (who are usually related to the Real Housewives franchise) discuss recent Bravo episodes- it is hysterical people! I love Andy and he can do no wrong! This podcast always makes me smile!
4. Bitch Sesh: Okay, first of all, I apologize for that bad word…sorry! But, this podcast is an absolute MUST if you are into the Real Housewives or Vanderpump Rules- both shows are covered in the 1 hour long (almost) weekly podcast. I will be honest with you- now that I finished both Serial and S-Town, I look forward to this podcast the most. Guys, you will LAUGH OUT LOUD in your car/shower/wherever you are when you listen to this. These two ladies are hysterical and literally say everything I am thinking while watching these shows…head up though, I wouldn’t listen to this with kids around as sometimes they get a little crazy and say some inappropriate things for little ears!
5. Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations: Okay, I saved the most inspirational for last. I grew up watching Oprah almost every afternoon with my mom, so this always takes me back when I listen. Listen along as Oprah interviews leaders, celebrities, best-selling authors, and health/wellness experts…I mean, really, who wouldn’t want to listen to Oprah all day long?! Always interesting and always puts me in a good, more uplifted mood- Thanks, O.
Next time you are in the car, about to take a shower, or are cleaning the house, why don’t you try out one of these podcasts? I promise you will love it! For those of you who already listen to podcasts- what are your favorites? Any good ones that I missed? As always, thank you for reading and sharing! -A
