This weekend, Scott and I are headed to Chattanooga for a friend’s wedding! We are so excited because it will be like a mini-college reunion, as it is one of Scott’s fraternity brothers who is getting married. We cannot believe that it has been SEVEN years since we graduated college- time is flying by!
The wedding is ‘black tie optional’ and you all know that I love any excuse to get fancy and wear a pretty dress! This is actually my first ever black tie wedding (crazy, I know!), so I was excited to find just the right dress to wear.
In the past, whenever I have attended formal events (military balls), I would use Rent the Runway to rent a dress. This was such a great service, as it allowed me access to designer dresses, but at a fraction of the cost. The only problem that I ran into was that whenever I would rent floor-length gowns, I would either have to wear sky-high heels (and be miserable all night) or somehow temporarily alter the dress by raising the hem with tape/pins. I am only 5’2”, so the vast majority of the floor-length gowns would be way too long. So, basically I would either be worried about my temporary alternations falling apart throughout the night OR I would be miserable in uncomfortable heels. I rented floor-length gowns twice and realized that this wasn’t the best option for me and that I should just stick to cocktail dresses that were a little shorter. So, even though Rent the Runway is an amazing service, I do feel like it is difficult to use unless you are of average height/size.
So, once I knew that I needed a formal dress for this wedding, I started doing a little research and found a store in Nashville called The Showroom. They carry all kinds of designer pieces that you can rent/buy PLUS they provide alterations! Yes, you read that right! It was like all my prayers had been answered!
I went to The Showroom a few weeks ago on the hunt for a dress to wear to the wedding. I tried on a few options, but fell in love with this feminine, blush-toned dress. I loved the detailing on it and thought the color was perfect. Also, this dress is so comfortable which is key for a wedding! If I am going to be in a dress for multiple hours and plan on eating, drinking, and dancing, you better believe the dress needs to be comfortable! The dress was about 1-2 sizes too big, but the ladies were able to take in the shoulders, hips, and hem! *Side note- if you are going to The Showroom to look for a dress, make sure you bring some heels! I didn’t bring any heels the first time I went and the ladies asked me to come back with my shoes so they could get the hem perfect! Bringing a pair of heels during the first visit will save you from making another trip!
I paired this dress with a fun clutch from The Showroom and some simple nude heels. I added some simple white earrings and am wearing my go to undergarment for formal dresses!
All in all, I had the best experience at The Showroom and cannot wait to go back! I love that I am able to try on dresses in person and have the ability to have the pieces altered- so life changing! If you are local and are needing a formal dress, I highly recommend The Showroom!
What do you think about renting dresses? Have you ever done it before? Do you have any upcoming formal events? As always, thank you for reading and sharing!
