Two weeks ago, Scott and I traveled to California to visit family and friends! This was Scott’s third time to go to California, but it was my first and I was so excited! We spent our time in Southern California and visited Temecula, San Diego, La Jolla, San Clemente, and Laguna Beach.
Today, I wanted to share all about our trip in Temecula (where we spent half our time) including where were stayed and what we did! I will also be sharing another post all about San Diego, La Jolla, San Clemente, and Laguna Beach (where we spent the other half of our time).
Accommodations
Scott’s dad actually lives in Temecula, so we lucked out and were able to stay with him. That definitely helped to save us a little money, as we were going to be staying in a hotel in San Diego.
I think an Airbnb would be the best option for accommodations- especially if you can find one near the wineries!
Wineries
1. Miramonte: Hands down my absolute favorite! We went here Sunday afternoon and they had an amazing live band- kinda reggae-like! I loved the “chill” atmosphere. We didn’t eat here, but I looked over the menu and their food looked delicious! There were much more people our age at this winery, versus the other wineries that were more of an “older” crowd.
2. Danza Del Sol: This was the first winery we visited and was my second favorite! I loved that you literally feel like you have been transported to Italy- it is so beautiful! We went on a Saturday afternoon and they had live music as well as yummy Italian food!
3. Maurice Car’rie: This winery was very interesting as the building looked like an old Southern home- wrap around porch included! When we went on a Saturday night, they had a local taco vendor available on the grounds, so we enjoyed the most delicious fresh tacos!
4. Lorimar: We ended Saturday night here and gosh it was so fun! They had multiple food trucks available outside with so many different food options as well as a HUGE band! So many people we up dancing on the dance floor, so it made for good people watching!
5. Thorton’s: This is for my champagne lovers! Scott’s dad is a member at this winery, so we spent quite a bit of time here. I am not a big fan of the bubbles, but I was able to enjoy a delicious glass of rosé.
Food
1. Crush & Brew: Located in Old Town, this restaurant offers a wide variety of menu options as well as cocktails, beer, and wine. We sat outside here and people watched!
2. Ballast Point Brewing Temecula: Scott is much more of a beer drinker than a wine connoisseur, so we went to this restaurant to enjoy some beers. I looked over the menu and they had a great selection of food! Everything looked so yummy!
3. It’s TABU Sushi Bar & Grille: We ate here after walking around and doing some shopping in Old Town. We loved their house salads and both really enjoyed the rolls we ordered! Definitely recommend if you are a sushi-lover
4. Bluewater Grill: So many of you recommended this restaurant, but unfortunately we ran out of time and were unable to go. They serve a wide varity of seafood dishes, so if that is what you are crazving, than this is your place!
5. Bushfire Kitchen: Another recommendation from you all! Most dishes are gluten-free and they can also accommodate special diets like paleo. I really wanted to make a stop here, as everything looked so fresh and healthy, but again, we ran out of time! Will definitely be top on this list when we go back!
Remember, most of the wineries we went to offer a full menu of food, so you can certainly plan on eating there as well!
Activities
1. Wineries: Did you even go to Temecula if you didn’t even go to the wineries?! They are literally everywhere and it is so fun to ‘winery hop’ all day and have a glass at a few! I listed my favorite ones above!
2. Old Town Temecula: We spent nearly a full day here- lots of restaurants, shopping, and people watching (my favorite!). We had drinks at Crush & Brew, walked around to a few different stores (including a HUGE antique store), and ended the afternoon at It’s Tabu Sushi. There is plenty to do here, so plan on spending at least a few hours in Old Town.
3. Breweries: Although Temecula is known for their wine, there are a few breweries in town. Scott started getting tired of all the wine pretty quickly, so we did go to one local brewery so he could get his beer-fix haha!
4. Agua Tibia Wilderness: If you are looking to do a little hiking while you’re in Temecula, than this is the best spot. Scott woke up early one morning and went for a run along the trails here and ended up taking some amazing photos! The views were beautiful!
We had so much fun in Temecula and hope to be able to go back soon! If you are planning a trip to Southern California, I highly recommend spending some time in Temecula. It is so peaceful and laid back, plus the wineries aren’t too bad either!
Next week, I hope to be sharing the second half of our trip to San Diego, La Jolla, San Clemente, and Laguna Beach. As always, thank you for reading and sharing! -A
